Foreword

The series of international regional conferences on the environment of the Danube–Kris–Mures–Tisa Euroregion started in 1999 as an initiative of local scientists. The arrangement of the Fifth Regional Conference on Environment and Food Quality of this region was a joint action of the Serbian Ministry for Science, Technology and Development, the Executive Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, and the Faculty of Technology, University of Novi Sad. The Conference took place in Novi Sad, Serbia from September 4 to 5, 2003.

The aim of the Conference was to present current results of basic and applied scientific research achieved by engineers and other scientists of the topic. Further aims were to establish personal contacts between the appropriate partners to exchange information, experiences and achievements, and to present innovative ideas for the protection of environment and human beings.

The Organizers would like to express thanks to the Executive Council of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina for hosting the Conference on its premises. The Organizing Committee extends appreciation to all sponsors for their contribution to the success of the Conference. The offer made by the Central European Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine to publish selected presentations is also highly appreciated.
