Abstract:
In order to survey the efficiency of water disinfection and the quality of the delivery system, 582 water samples from 19 sites of the central water supply system of Timişoara (Romania) were analysed for free residual chlorine and bacteriological quality. The results suggest that, even if the present risk of infections is low, the chlorine treatment of the water should be replaced by ozone disinfection, or another source of non-polluted water for the city must be found. At the same time, the central drinking water supply system also requires major repairs and replacements in some districts.
