Disinfection, chlorine, ozone, water treatment, and regulation

Abstract:
A general overview is given about the problems and regulations of frequently used disinfectants in municipal water treatment plants. The comparison of the disinfection efficiency and the disinfection byproduct potential of ozone and chlorine (and its derivatives) leads to the inescapable conclusion that the use of chlorine for primary and secondary disinfection will be limited to very clean water.
